Lights, camera, action: Is Perth set to become Australia’s Hollywood?

Construction of West Australia’s very own slice of Hollywood is well underway, with works on the state’s first dedicated screen production facility on track for completion late next year.

The $233.5 million state government project, dubbed the Perth Film Studio, is being built on a 16-ha site on Marshall Road, near the new Malaga Metronet station in Perth’s northeast.

The doors to the Perth Film Studio are set to officially open in early 2026 and will feature four purpose-built sound stages, as well as onsite screen production facilities including production offices, an art department, workshops and set storage. Within the studio complex, there will be 8200 sqm of interior production space, in addition to a 23,200 sqm backlot that will be bigger than the Melbourne Cricket Ground’s playing field.

“We’ve got a very talented local screen industry and there are a lot of expat West Australian (WA) film-makers who are elsewhere in Australia and the world, so this is an opportunity to attract them back to Perth,” Marty Cunningham, Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries special projects director, said in realcommercial.com.au. “We are really looking at that pipeline of graduates (giving them) an opportunity to work in Perth and WA so they don’t have to consider having to leave Perth for a career in the film industry.”

Dubai Marina vs Downtown Dubai: Where should you live?

Dubai Marina and Downtown Dubai are two popular residential neighbourhoods in Dubai, offering an exciting variety of properties with state-of-the-art amenities.

Dubai Marina and Downtown Dubai draw significant attention from buyers and investors. Downtown Dubai is the flagship development of Emaar Properties, the name behind popular master developments such as The Lakes, The Meadows, The Springs and Arabian Ranches. Dubai Marina also is predominantly developed by Emaar, but there are residential towers by other well-known developers.

Creatives stand firm that skill trumps AI

Too much reliance on generative artificial intelligence (AI) lessens the creativity involved in producing an output, a global brand said. “It takes away the effort of your craft if you rely too much on AI,” Canon Marketing (Philippines), Inc. Product Manager JV Ruanto said at a product launch event on Thursday, 12th September.

He added that the artistic process of generating an output that did not use AI adds more pride to the artists. “For you to be really proud of your work, it matters if it comes from you 100 percent.”

Creatives, like photographers, must be able to produce a good output by using their skills and creativity alone, Mr. Ruanto said in BusinessWorld. “As a photographer, it’s in your eye to know which should be in the frame and what shouldn’t be in the frame,” he said on using AI to eliminate and add elements to photos.
