Nearly VND18 trillion to aid the Mekong Delta’s climate change response

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep on August 12 chaired a meeting on the progress of the World Bank-funded Mekong Delta Climate Resilience and Integrated Transformation Project (MERIT–WB11), which costs more than VND17.75 trillion (approximately USD741 million).

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD)’s Central Project Office, MERIT–WB11 will be implemented in the provinces of Dong Thap, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Tra Vinh, Ca Mau, and An Giang, aiming to enhance climate resilience in their agricultural production and rural communities.

VietnamPlus reports that MERIT–WB11 will focus on implementing both structural and non-structural solutions to address issues and improve and develop key product chains, thus increasing income for residents. Additionally, it will step up the switch from fragmented, small-scale development to a more centralised model, while fostering the growth of agriculture-based economic clusters linked to urbanised, industrialised, and tourism areas. This shift is expected to create more jobs and generate higher incomes for labourers.

Zaha Hadid Architects to design Discovery City in Johor, Malaysia

Following a competition, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA), in collaboration with JLand Group Sdn Bhd (JLG), has been chosen to design Discovery City in Johor, Malaysia. The district is expected to be a visionary 582-acre mixed-use precinct within the expansive Ibrahim Technoloplis in Johor. As ZHA’s inaugural project in Malaysia, Discovery City aims to boast a blend of innovative design and sustainability, blending with the region’s landscapes.

As stated in ArchDaily, Zaha Hadid Architects will lead the design of Discovery City, including the cultural centre, which will serve as the focal point of the master plan and represent ZHA’s first completed building in Malaysia.

The architectural vision for Discovery City aims to emphasize a deep connection with Johor’s natural environment, in line with IBTEC’s overarching goal of fostering a circular city where innovation and sustainability thrive. ZHA’s approach will prioritize ecological sustainability, integrating smart city technologies, and minimizing environmental impact. The master plan will showcase advanced design and construction methods, utilizing locally sourced and recycled materials, renewable energy generation, and rainwater harvesting to significantly reduce energy and water consumption.
